This special issue of Notornis (Journal of the Ornithological Society of New Zealand) on waders in New Zealand is a long awaited update of the Notornis Wader Studies in New Zealand produced over two decades ago. It brings together a valuable compilation of 19 papers that provide insight into New Zealand’s migratory and non-migratory wader species. The assessment of numerous long-term datasets, collected by a multitude of citizen scientists, are assessed for conservationists, to understand long-term changes to this important cohort of birds.
